Mac Password Reset

Mac Password Reset

So perhaps you forgot your password or a family member forgot theirs. Maybe you just feel like playing a prank. Either way, this is how to bypass and reset a Mac password.

  1. Reboot the computer
  2. Press and hold the Command, R keys simultaneously when the grey screen comes up and hold until the Apple logo appears (This boots you up into recovery mode)
  3. In the top left click Utilities, then click Terminal
  4. Type the following exactly:    resetpassword
  5. Press Enter
  6. A reset password screen will pop up, select the user account you want to reset, type a new password, or leave it blank (no password)
  7. Exit out of terminal and the Reset password utility and restart your Mac

It may seem like a lot, but really it’s rebooting typing a phrase in, then typing in the password. It’s pretty simple, and I hope this saved the day! (OR ruined it if someone pranked you, sorry lol)
